Extracted from natural freeze-dried tomato powder from specially cultivated non genetically modified tomato species, PhytoflORAL®’s key components are its two rich colourless carotenoids (CLCs) – phytoene and phytofluene, along with its natural ζ-Carotene element. PhytoflORAL® is clinically proven in providing protection against UV damage, free radical DNA damage and undesired skin pigmentation, hence slowing down skin aging and photo aging and contributes to the whitening and lightening of skin.

Phytoene and phytofluene, the first carotenoid precursors in the biosynthetic pathway of other carotenoids, are colorless and have the ability to absorb light in the UV range only. These colourless carotenoids are highly effective in providing protection against UV and oxidative damages, which is known to lead to pre‐mature aging and other skin damages. These elements are also able to control pigmentation by inhibition of melanin synthesis, which brightens and lightens the skin. They also present abilities of inflammation reduction, anti-oxidation and UVA/UVB protection that further enhance skin lightening effects.



Bioavailability and Tissue Distribution of Phytoene and Phytofluene

Many dietary carotenoids, both with and without pro-vitamin A activity, are found in most human tissues, including in the serum, plasma and skin. However, the distribution of carotenoids throughout the body is usually not uniformed. Phytoene and phytofluene, compared to other carotenoids, have the highest accumulation factor in the skin, lungs, plasma and lymphocytes, indicating a high distribution factor and better stability. These elements also clinically proven to have the ability to prevent and protect against oxidation damage in vivo. Furthermore, it was also observed that an increased protection of DNA and skin cells against oxidative and UV damage was found with increased consumption of phytoene and phytofluene.

Improved protection against oxidation damage in vivo and increased protection of DNA and skin cells against oxidative and UV damage were observed with increased consumption of phytoene and phytofluene.
